Development of public policy

Firecone assists government in developing public policy, and businesses in influencing that process.

Assignments include:

National Reform Initiative: Firecone advised at the state level on the scope of a national reform initiative as a successor to NCP, and the design of incentive mechanisms.

Passenger Transport Funding: in 2005 we advised Land Transport NZ on options for revising the way it funds regional councils for providing bus, rail and ferry passenger services.  Each option was developed to a sufficient level of detail to assess its likely operational effectiveness.

Climate Change and Deforestation: we advised the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on options for controlling shifts in land use away from exotic plantation forestry in order to help NZ meet its commitments under the Kyoto Protocol. 

Electronic Claiming: Firecone assisted the Department of Human Services in conducting a request for information on possible electronic medicare claiming and payment services.
